Saturday Introduction to Wine - Vive la France!
11.00am to 4.00pm - including Champagne & delicious 2-course lunch at award-winning Blackfriars
Our ever popular Saturday Introduction Course takes on a distinctly French flavour this Bastille Day when we will feature the wines of France in a special introductory tasting.
Touring the major wine regions of France; from Alsace in the North to Provence in the South, travelling the length of the Loire and Rhône valleys and taking in Burgundy and Bordeaux along the way we will use the wines of France to discover how wine is made and how factors such as climate and oak ageing affect the style and flavours of wine.
Our tutored tasting of 12 different wines starting with Champagne will feature many of the worlds most popular grape varieties so if your enjoyment of Malbec has been limited to Argentina, you usually only drink Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, have never tried a Pinot Grigio from outside of Italy, thought Shiraz was exclusively Australian or that only Chile produced affordable Cabernet then come and be amazed by the classic versions of these wines from the country in which they originated.
By the end of the day we will have taught you how to recognise and describe, like a professional, the key elements of wine and had fun developing your sense of smell with our “Nez du Vin”
Throughout an enjoyably informal day you will also have the opportunity to learn which wines to buy to obtain the best value for money, how to store and serve wine, gain an understanding of wine labels and pick up some practical food and wine matching tips & advice.
